SIGHTSEEING
Interesting sights inside and outside of the village: the castle
The Venetian Castle is situated inside the traditional settlement of Antiparos. It was
built in the early 1440s in order to provide accommodation for the residents and
protect them from the frequent pirates’ invasions. The Castle initially was a square
construction consisting of surrounding dwellings with an indoor yard and a circular
tower in the centre. The external walls of the surrounding residences form its
defensive wall. Regarding the central tower, which used to function as the ultimate
shelter or the house of the local ruler, only its base has remained. The only entrance to
the castle can be found next to the Cathedral of Saint Nikolaos.
